The first mould spray to be reviewed on Mould Removing is Astonish Mould & Mildew Remover by Astonish.
It’s important to note why we went for this particular brand over the Amazon best seller HG Mould Spray. The reason being is that we thought we would work our way up to the so-called better one. Just so that we would have ourselves a nice surprise when we saw the HG Mould Spray outshine it’s competition.
Make no mistake, we are looking forward to reviewing the HG Mould Spray. But with the Astonish Mould & Mildew Remover costing over £1.50 less, making it the cheaper option we wanted to see exactly what it could do. It’s also worth noting it has over 2000 less positive reviews. So, most making their way through the Amazon store, will be funnelled through to the HG Mould Spray. The reason for this may very well be down to the mould spray by Astonish debuting on shop shelves a year later.
Without further ado, let’s cut to the chase!
The design and branding of this bottle as you’ll see from it’s profile picture stands out from the crowd. This is perhaps what drew us in to going with this mould spray first. Although the shape of the bottle is somewhat more unusual and bulky looking, this doesn’t make for any more difficulty of use.
Making use of the Astonish mould spray in the bathroom
Importantly, the mould spray by Astonish does contain an extra 250ml of mould removing juice!
Upon our use of the mould spray, we decided to test it out on some of the rubber sealant in the bathroom. Heavily featuring black mould for some time. We decided that we would use it once at the beginning of each morning over the course of the week.
You could say, that when returning to the scene at the end of the day. We were Astonish(ed). It was noticeable (although perhaps only vaguely) that the black mould was beginning to clear up. By the third day, all traces of black had completely vanished and in most cases around the sealant, it had vanished completely. The worst effected area, had discoloured to a much less revolting light brown/orange tint. We then noticed it beginning to disappear completely over the next couple of days when following our morning routine.
Here’s are some during and after photos of the most heavily effected area:
To get rid of mould, when using this spray, we would highly recommend our method of spraying the effected area each morning. Ideally when you’ve left the house as it does leave a potent smell of chlorine which can trigger head aches.
As far as using this product on dry walls, such as in the bedroom. We haven’t tested that yet and we don’t advise this, not least because of the damage you can do to the paint work. Also because, most bedroom walls are non-porous which will not have a lasting effect. You can read more on this subject and how to use house hold items to get rid of mould from this post.
To summarise, if you couldn’t already tell. We were delighted with how this product performed, as it continued to show results each day.
